July 2007 - Health & Saftey - Reversing Cameras |
A Statement from Lee Johnston - Operation Manager
I first pursued the option of fitting the reversing cameras to the rigids some months ago. It got to the point where the amount of repairs to the back end of vehicles became unacceptable. I was regularly signing off invoices for rear light assemblies, light clusters and d-cut rubbers it got to the point where I said enough was enough. Everyone is aware of how tight some of the rigid drops were and it was time to come up with a solution to the problem.
When Mark Smith from Thermoking offered me a camera on trial I thought it was too good of an opportunity to pass up. Mark then fitted one to one of our rigids for a 2 month trial and it proved very successful.
There was very positive feedback from our drivers as it became their ‘3rd eye’ It gave them an excellent vision of tight loading bays and assisted them when parking.
After extensive trials I decided to put a purchase request to the directors and invited them to see a demonstration, they were as equally impressed.
My purchase request was passed and we are currently in the process of retro-fitting reversing cameras to 7 rigids. In future all new rigids will arrive with reversing cameras as standard fit. See pictures below |
